Crafts for Under the Sea Parties

Children are certainly fascinated by animals under the sea, especially the larger animals such as whales and dolphins. Boys tend to be fascinated by fish off all kinds, including all varieties of under the sea creatures. For your child's under the sea party, there is a fun craft that is easy for the children to make. In order to make the puffer fish you need old egg cartons, construction paper, fishing line, wiggly eyes, and glue. For colorful fish, the colored egg cartons are good to use.

To make the fish, cut out the two bottom cup parts of the egg carton. On construction paper outline the cups that will go together. Add a fish head, top and tail fin outline to the outline of the egg carton cup. Cut out the outline so that it looks like a fish. If you're not sure of your drawing skills, you can find a pattern online to make sure your fish really looks like a fish and not like something from another planet. Some children are very good artists, while others lack skills in that area--have a pattern ready for those who need it. Apply glue to the rims of the egg cups and then glue the construction paper outline in the middle. Add the wiggly eyes and use lines to draw fin details. When you glue the body together, you can add some fishing line if you want to hang your fish after the glue dries.

The project is not difficult and is one that children of all ages can make, whether boy or girl. Be sure to put it on your list of crafts for the next under the sea party.

Speed painting dog account in delicate (Setter)

A commissioned portrait of Jake the Gordon Setter, painted in pastel pencils on sanded paper (Fisher 400). I wish I could really work this fast, but in reality it took about 20 hours. The painting measures about 18x16". To answer the FAQs that I usually get: I don't use water or any fluids. The background is in soft pastel sticks, the 'brush' looking thing I use on it at the start is a silicon 'colour shaper' tool: it blends the colours. The dog is done entirely with pastel pencils. Mostly I use Faber Castell & Schwann CarbOthello. I used to use Derwent, but have had quality issues so I've stopped using them and cannot recommend them. The stick you can see some of the time is a Mahl stick, as used by signwriters. It's just to lean my hand on without smudging the work. I do sell my work and take portrait commissions in the UK (it's my living, so please don't ask for freebies!), more about that on my website for anyone interested. I don't do any teaching or tuition, I just make these videos from time to time because people seem to enjoy watching the process. Hope you do too... happy viewing!

Animation Challenges of Drawing Army Tanks Considered

Animators are often asked to animate things that are involved in human conflicts and wars. Sometimes the animations are being done for a company that is a defense contractor that is trying to put forth a concept to get funded. Thus, they need to make videos and have animation ready to show their new weapons as if it is in the battle space.

Those animators that need to help with war fighter simulators, or preparing video games, or even animated movies will at one time or another have to learn how to draw an army tank. That sounds pretty easy, and there is no doubt that most of the CAD/CAM animation software already has basic models built in that can help you with a starting point.

Still one of the skills you need to be able to possess is to take something from the drawing board and then scan it into the computer where you can give it a set of point values on the grid. Let's consider some of their drawings that you need to be able to handle;

Firing Projectiles
Moving turret
Tracks in Motion
Traveling on the Terrain

Now then, army tanks are weapons and they fire projectiles at the enemy, well hopefully the enemy, sometimes friendly fire takes its toll on an army. Therefore, you must know how to draw the firing sequence; as the shell emerges from the tank's barrel and travels forward while puffs of smoke and cloud expand out of the barrel with curved lines from the smoke to the back of the projectile. You can see that right? This is the first step in drawing army tanks once you have drawn the original vehicle.

Next, you will need to figure out how the turret moves in the barrel moves up and down, as we will be creating quite a few axis points, as we prepare these drawings for the actual animation. Of course, as this is happening the tank will be traveling up and down the natural terrain as the tracks on the tank contour themselves to the rocks on the ground and the uneven surface.

Further, the tracks themselves are moving along with the wheels inside of the tracks. You can understand how complicated this gets and how important it is to get it right. If you will consider that many animation drawings will have multiple tanks on the battlefield firing weapons at different times moving over the terrain at different speeds and being fired upon by other enemy forces; well, let's just put it this way you have your work cut out for you. Please consider all this.
