The Giant of Marathon

Set in 490 BC during the time of the Medic Wars, Olympic champion Philippides becomes commander of the Sacred Guard, which is expected to defend the city-state's liberty. Meanwhile, Athenian supporters of Hippias conspire to marry Philippides off to Theocrites' expensive servant Charis and thus neutralize the guard. But she fails to seduce him, as his heart is already taken by Andromeda, daughter of Creuso. Then word comes that the Persian King of kings Darius's vast army is marching on Greece and all must prepare for battle.
