Bible Story Crafts - Teaching God's Love

Creativity is one of the wonderful gifts God gave us in His infinite wisdom and bible story crafts are a great way to teach and encourage children to praise God while learning the stories of the bible. For many children this is the first time they may be hearing these stories. To further cement the stories in their heads, a craft that they make and take home from Sunday school or Vacation Bible School will remind them to praise God every time they view it. It is a great way to introduce faith and God's gift of salvation and love through His son Jesus Christ.

Use bible story crafts as a launching pad to create their own individual creations that will further encourage appreciation in their own abilities. They can be made using the simplest of supplies, such as, construction paper, stickers, markers and crayons or donations of recycled items. Closets in churches are notorious for providing those saved jars, cans, buttons and boxes. If the needed materials are not readily available, make a plea to your congregation. A simple list of items needed will most likely send an avalanche of art supplies your way. If you get an over abundance of brand new materials and not enough of others, most stores are more than willing to make exchanges for you.

Design bible story crafts that are easily attainable for very young children as well as older children. Create alternatives for these ages so that they all walk away feeling like an artist. Children need boundaries, but crafting should allow the child to show his or her personality. Give guidelines, not rules, so the process can be a fun learning experience. Their finished project will be much more special to them and those they share it with if it truly has their own flair. Let's face it, you can never have too much glitter to shine for Jesus.

Plan your bible story crafts around your lessons and special times of the year. Christmas and Easter, of course, have a multitude of symbols and characters to make any number of crafts and Vacation Bible School themes are all the rage. Produce a gallery effect of all the kid's beautiful work from these special times. Invite friends and family for a "showing" to further encourage worship and the praise of God. This will put the kids in the pulpit, so to speak, and allow them the chance to teach what they have learned in love through our creator.

Crafts that give children visualization of God's love for us, will provide an infinite variety of effective teaching tools to share the Good news with others. Continue to share that news by introducing their artwork at the alter as visual aids for services, programs or bible studies, to grow in faith with praises. The children you have taught and the people they come in contact with, will continue to teach the stories of the bible that will snowball in an abundance of love and praise for our Savior.

Bible Story Crafts - Caterpillar, Butterfly Activities - Kids Bible Story Crafts

The metamorphosis of the caterpillar to butterfly has symbolized rebirth for ages,
everlasting life and being born again through Christ, which makes these Easy Kids Bible Story Crafts ideal for Sunday School, homeschoolers or other groups looking for kids Bible crafts or other Bible lessons. This craft could accompany a story such as the wonderful picture book classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle (this book also has beautiful collage pictures that can inspire other projects).

In this fanciful book the caterpillar eats all kinds of foods, including a cherry pie, so you may also want to read a short non-fiction picture book to the kids. After all, in real life caterpillars are very selective about what they eat.

Then you can make a comparison to the how the leaves of the right sort of plant nourishes the caterpillar so that it may become a butterfly, just as Jesus' teachings nourish our spirit so that we may be reborn in the heavenly kingdom. There are many wonderful analogies you can find between the lowly caterpillar's metamorphoses into a beautiful creature of flight.

Below you will find a butterfly craft and tips on growing butterfly gardens.

Supplies

o Wooden spring type clothespin

o Green pom-poms (4 medium sized)

o White school glue

o Pipe cleaner

o White paper

o Outline of butterfly wings

o Markers, crayons or paint

Teacher Prep

Most young children will need a template for their butterfly wings. You can create one by drawing a pair of wings on a piece of paper and photocopying one for each child.

Instructions:

1. Glue pom-poms onto one side of clothespin.

2. Form antennas with a piece of pipe cleaner

3. Twist antennas onto the end of the clothespin that doesn't close

4. Set aside to dry.

5. Color or paint the butterfly wings.

6. Cut out the wings.

7. Transform the caterpillar into a butterfly by clipping on the wings with the clothespin!

Butterfly Gardens

Children love to watch butterflies, and if you create a butterfly garden, they may also have the opportunity to observe the caterpillars and cocoons.

To grow a butterfly garden, you will need to grow plants that provide nectar, places for the butterflies to lay eggs, food plants for the caterpillars (the larva) and places for them to form the chrysalises (cocoons).

Here are some tips for designing your butterfly garden:

1. Grow nectar-producing plants in sunny areas because adult butterflies rarely feed in the shade.

2. Butterflies and many caterpillars are finicky eaters. Consult a regional field guide to find out which species of butterflies prefer which plants.

3. Plant dense clusters of small flowers such as zinnias, milkweeds, verbenas, and many mint family plants are favored by many butterfly species.

4. Do not use insecticides or pesticides.

5. Design your garden so that blossoms are clustered together by type of plant and also in monochromatic, big splashes of color. This makes it easier for the butterflies to see and catch the scent of the blossoms.

6. Choose plants with tubular flowers or flat-topped blossoms, which make better landing strips and feeding stations. Choose easier to sip from single flowers rather than doubles (the ones with extra petals).

7. Since butterflies are active from early spring until late fall, plant accordingly, and include annuals and perennials.

8. Include plants in the butterfly garden that provide food for caterpillars and that are attractive to female butterflies looking for places to lay eggs.

9. Maintain favorite "watering holes": damp areas and/or shallow puddles.

10. Include plenty places in your butterfly garden for basking. Since butterflies can't fly when their bodies temperatures are below 70 F, they often bask in the sun on stones, bare soil or vegetation.

11. Last but not least, create your butterfly garden in a way that makes it easy for you and the children to enjoy, perhaps by including a swing bench in the garden, or bringing the garden to you by planting near a deck or pond.

Fun Crafts For Kids at Home

When it's a rainy day outside or the school holidays are in full force, finding fun crafts for kids at home is a must. But what types of craft will keep kids occupied long enough to pass away the hours?

Depending on the time of year, children will find more stimulation in some crafts than others. For example, during the holidays in spring, crafts for kids at home could include decorating pots in which they can grow their own plants, or painting Easter eggs. In winter it might be making Christmas decorations to hang on the tree. Crafts for kids at home in summer could include making paper kites to fly in the breeze, or making sailboats to float in a pond or down a gutter after the summer rain.

On top of choosing suitable, fun crafts, you also need to make sure you have enough of them lined up to keep the children occupied for as long as possible. That last thing you want is for your kids to be bored at home. But how do you come up with fun and exciting crafts time and time again without repeating yourself?

Well, the best place to start is with a well thought out, quality craft book designed specifically for kids. The best kids craft books will identify fun crafts for all seasons, from holiday crafts, painting, making puppets and just about anything else kids might enjoy. And the benefit of having this in book form is that the children can choose crafts for themselves in their own time; you don't always need to supervise them like you would if you relied solely on an internet connection for ideas.

Crafts for Under the Sea Parties

Children are certainly fascinated by animals under the sea, especially the larger animals such as whales and dolphins. Boys tend to be fascinated by fish off all kinds, including all varieties of under the sea creatures. For your child's under the sea party, there is a fun craft that is easy for the children to make. In order to make the puffer fish you need old egg cartons, construction paper, fishing line, wiggly eyes, and glue. For colorful fish, the colored egg cartons are good to use.

To make the fish, cut out the two bottom cup parts of the egg carton. On construction paper outline the cups that will go together. Add a fish head, top and tail fin outline to the outline of the egg carton cup. Cut out the outline so that it looks like a fish. If you're not sure of your drawing skills, you can find a pattern online to make sure your fish really looks like a fish and not like something from another planet. Some children are very good artists, while others lack skills in that area--have a pattern ready for those who need it. Apply glue to the rims of the egg cups and then glue the construction paper outline in the middle. Add the wiggly eyes and use lines to draw fin details. When you glue the body together, you can add some fishing line if you want to hang your fish after the glue dries.

The project is not difficult and is one that children of all ages can make, whether boy or girl. Be sure to put it on your list of crafts for the next under the sea party.

Letting your children take part in the decorating of your home or even in their own rooms is a great way to encourage their creativity, an appreciation for art as well as a unique, special home décor. Here are some quick and easy ideas for arts and crafts for your kids.

You can make your own finger paint with the recipe below:

o 1/4 cup cornstarch

o 2 cups water

Begin- Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan. Boil until mixture thickens. Allow to cool, then pour into jars or other storage containers and color with food coloring. Best used on a glossy paper, such as butcher or shelf paper.

Or you can buy some paint from a store. You can have your child make paint handprints that they can sign and date. This makes a great wall decoration for their room. Another idea is to make a collage.

Make a collage- another great idea that's fun and easy for children and that you can use around your home is to make a collage. You can use everyday items from around your home to make a fun and interesting collage. Your child can also add some photos or drawings they have done themselves. o Other dried goods/foods
